Canada’s Physical Activity Guide for Children recommends:

  • Children increase the amount of time they currently spend being physically active by 30 minutes more per day
  • Children decrease the amount of time they spend on TV, video games and the computer by at least 30 minutes less per day
  • All children should aim to achieve 60 minutes each day of moderately vigorous physical activities, such as fast walking, bike riding on flat ground, or playing in the park
  • All children should aim to achieve 30 minutes each day of vigorous physical activities, such running, skipping, dancing or bike riding in hilly areas
  • Increasing physical activity gradually over time
  • Being active for at least 5 to 10 minutes at a timE

Healthy Young Children have Screen Time Limits

Screen free until 3 – infants and toddlers should have ZERO screen time
Nap free gets 30 – children 3 to 5 who no longer nap during the day should get
no more than 30 minutes of screen time per day
60 for Grades 1 to 3 – young students can have up to 1 hour of screen time per day, including time needed for homework and school assignments
